The J. M. Smucker Co. has issued a recall for select Jif peanut butter items sold in the USA due to potential Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail and elderly people, along with people that have weakened immune systems. The recalled Jif items distributed nationwide and include products with lot codes 1274425 – 2140425. These lot codes are included by the best-if-used-by date on product packaging.
If you have any of these products, they suggest that you dispose of them immediately. However, when there was a Gas-X recall years ago, my local Publix store accepted the recalled items at customer service and issued a full refund for the items. You may want to contact your local grocery store to see if that option is available so you can recoup your money.
